Steve Albini in Iceland

Steve Albini 'out utero' in Iceland

Steve Albini, the influential singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer, audio engineer, and music journalist, came on stage at this year’s ATP Iceland Festival with his band Shellac. Shellac was formed in 1992. Previous Albini was part of the bands  Big Black (1982-87) and Rapeman (1987-89). It’s been 15 years since his latest appearance in Iceland.

The Iceland Connection of Steve Albini

The great veteran producer and the living legend in the world of alternative music Steve Albini) produced five tracks on the 2nd album by Ensími. This band was voted Iceland's Best Newcomers in the Icelandic Music Awards in 1998 and their song "Atari" was voted Song of the Year. Ensími was formed back in 1996 by Jón Örn Arnarson and Hrafn Thoroddsen. Franz Gunnarsson joined the line-up shortly after formation. Their debut album "Kafbátamúsík" was released in October 1998 by Dennis Records. In 1999 Steve Albini, who's best known for his work with Nirvana and The Pixies, expressed his interest in working with the band. As a result Albini came to Iceland, engineered and recorded half of Ensimi's second album "BMX", which was released in the fall of 1999 and released by Dennis as well.
